SUNLU PVB is a smoothable PVB filament for premium glossy and, depending on the color, transparent 3D printed parts. It prints similarly to PLA and can be polished after printing with alcohol, typically IPA, reducing layer lines and creating smooth surfaces. The material is especially suitable for decorative objects, figurines, vases, lampshades, art pieces, architectural models and presentation models. For best results, PVB should be stored dry and dried before printing if needed.

PVB for alcohol-polishable surfaces

SUNLU PVB is a special filament for printed parts where the visible surface is the main focus. After printing, the surface can be smoothed with alcohol, typically IPA. This reduces visible layer lines and creates a smooth, glossy and, depending on the color, transparent surface. PVB is especially interesting for art objects, decorations, figurines, vases, lampshades, presentation models and glass-like designs.

Smooth instead of sanding

PVB prints similarly to PLA but offers one major advantage: the surface can be chemically smoothed after printing. Depending on part design, color, wall thickness and smoothing method, the result can be clear, glossy or translucent. Especially for decorative models, transparent colors and organic shapes, SUNLU PVB can look much more refined than an untreated standard print.

POLISHABLE PVB FILAMENT

SUNLU PVB is especially suitable for models where visible surface quality matters more than maximum technical load capacity. Alcohol polishing can reduce layer lines and create a crystal-like, transparent or glossy finish. It is ideal for vases, figurines, art objects, lighting elements, transparent designs, architectural models and presentation prints.

IMPORTANT FOR PVB

Test alcohol smoothing carefully

PVB can be smoothed with alcohol. The smoothing intensity depends on alcohol type, concentration, exposure time, application method, wall thickness, color and part geometry. Too much alcohol or excessive exposure can soften details, round edges or deform thin structures. For important parts, always test with the same wall thickness, color and post-processing method first.

STORE DRY

PVB absorbs moisture more easily than PLA

Moist PVB can cause stringing, bubbling, unstable extrusion, rough surfaces and reduced transparency. For clean results, SUNLU PVB should be stored dry and dried before printing if needed. For longer prints or already opened spools, printing from a dry box or filament dryer is recommended.

One description for all SUNLU PVB colors

This product description is intentionally written without a specific color and can be used for all SUNLU PVB color variants. SUNLU lists transparent variants such as Transparent Black, Transparent Red, Transparent Green and Transparent Blue. Depending on the shop variant, Clear or Black may also be used. The exact color is managed through the item title, product images, variant logic and item data.

SUNLU PVB is especially useful when printed parts should receive a smooth, glossy or transparent surface after printing. With dry storage, suitable print profiles and controlled alcohol polishing, the filament is suitable for premium visible models and creative design projects.

Note on PVB

PVB is alcohol-polishable and is therefore not suitable for applications where the finished part will be in permanent contact with alcohol or alcohol-based cleaners. When smoothing with IPA or other alcohols, good ventilation, fire safety, protective equipment and a controlled workspace are important. For functional or safety-critical applications, material suitability should be checked separately.
