▶ Measurement Category (CAT) – What does it mean?
The CAT rating of a multimeter indicates the electrical environment for which it is safely designed. It describes not only the maximum voltage, but above all the impulse withstand capability — i.e. how well the device fails safely in the event of a sudden energy surge (e.g. arc flash or short circuit) instead of becoming dangerous.

Important: A device with an insufficient CAT rating can fail dangerously in a higher category environment — even if the rated voltage is identical. The selection of the correct CAT rating is the responsibility of the user and should comply with applicable safety regulations.
