Home Assistant Yellow is a user-friendly smart home hub that can adapt to your needs. Powered by a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4, it allows for future upgrades if more power is required. The hub is pre-configured with Zigbee support and will soon support Thread for Matter devices. No setup is necessary, as Home Assistant is pre-installed. For additional storage, a multi-terabyte hard drive can be added via the M.2 slot, making it ideal for both beginners and those with extensive smart home setups.
Choose Your Version
Home Assistant Yellow Standard
This flagship version is ready to use out of the box. It comes pre-assembled in a custom enclosure with a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4) and a custom heat sink for fanless, silent operation. The CM4 includes 2 GB RAM and 16 GB eMMC storage and is pre-installed with Home Assistant.
To get started, simply plug in the power supply and Ethernet cable, both included in the box. This variant does not support Power-over-Ethernet.
Yellow Kit with Power-over-Ethernet
Some assembly is required for this kit, which supports Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). It includes a custom enclosure, custom heat sink, and Ethernet cable. However, you must provide your own Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 and install Home Assistant yourself. This allows you to choose the compute module with the memory and eMMC storage that best fits your needs. A power supply is included, but PoE is not supported.
Recommendations for Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4
- Minimum 2 GB of RAM
- Minimum 16 GB of eMMC flash storage
- If using the CM4 Lite, which lacks an eMMC module, an NVMe SSD hard drive is required. Note that some SSDs are reported to be incompatible with Home Assistant Yellow.

FAQs
Q:
I am already using Home Assistant. Is this for me?
A:
If you are not familiar with tinkering with Raspberry Pi, or if you want a well-supported and dedicated piece of hardware to run Home Assistant, Home Assistant Green is for you.
If you are still looking for a present for friends and family, this would be perfect, too!
Q:
What is the difference between Home Assistant Yellow and Home Assistant Green?
A:
The most obvious difference is that Home Assistant Green is a plug-and-play system. It is designed to be used as-is. Home Assistant Yellow is designed to be extended by more RAM or more storage by adding an NVMe SSD. But extending also means you have to open the housing, install the additional hardware, and go through more complex installation steps.
The other big difference is that Yellow comes with support for Zigbee 3.0 and Matter-over-Thread. But Green can also use these protocols by adding a Connect ZBT-1.
Q:
Do I need a Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1?
A:
It is not strictly required, as most smart home devices and hubs work with Home Assistant Green out-of-the-box, but you should confirm compatibility. For the best experience, pair Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 with Home Assistant Green, making a single hub solution for your Zigbee or Thread powered smart home.
Q:
Will Nabu Casa keep supporting Home Assistant Green?
A:
Yes. Nabu Casa is committed to keep supporting all platforms that are currently available.
Q:

Q:
Will Home Assistant drop support for the Raspberry Pi?
A:
No. Nabu Casa is committed to keep supporting all platforms that are currently available.
